AwesomeCon is coming up on April 18-20 in DC! I’ll be there selling prints all weekend at an artist table located at Table L15 on the Exhibit Hall Map! I’ll be sharing the table with a really good friend of mine who will be selling her amazing jewelry and doing nerdy themed Henna tattoos. I also be recording bits of my Agents of SHIELD podcast during the con so I’d love to see/hear/tackle all you AoS fans out there!

You could argue comic books have little importance in the grander scheme of things. But comic books make a big statement in a small way. We won’t have blockbuster movies about a Muslim superhero until we can all be excited about a comic book portraying one. When Marvel created Khan, it took a shot at breaking the typical paradigm of superheroes. While it’s a small gesture when measured up to the entire comic book world, it’s another step in the movement for equality in entertainment.
For the larger part of the decade, there was a potent cloud of racism and hatred towards Muslim people. Today, the fact we can portray young Muslim girls as superheroes is a beacon of hope for what is to come. Sure, a lot of people will say “it’s just a comic book.” But I’d like to think somewhere out there, it’s making a difference in a young Muslim girl’s life. And even if the message gets lost and Khan’s character doesn’t sell well, at least a young girl could have her own superhero to look up to.

Global Thinking: Kamala Khan Marvel launches female Muslim Superhero by Kavahn Mansouri.

All right, so this is MovieBob’s breakdown of the Guardians of the Galaxy trailer. It’s chock full of material that probably contains a whole mountain of spoilers, but he explains a lot of what’s (probably) in that trailer, and since this isn’t a mainstream comic like Captain America or Iron Man, not a lot of people are as familiar with its mythos.

Nerd Poker is a D&D podcast that I adore, so I decided to do character designs of the current party! The podcast is hilarious, some of my favorite comedians and writers (Brian Posehn, Gerry Duggan, Blaine Capatch) are a part of it, so totally check it out.

(In order from the top- Bart, Blackee, Mildred, Sir Richard, Damien)

Notes:

Blackee Green- His design was basically if Howl from Howl’s Moving Castle and Jareth from Labyrinth had a pillow fight. Also, STARGOYLE!

Damien- My idea with his design was I wanted it to be as if he ran butt naked through a Hot Topic and this was the result on the other side. Hence the random belts and straps that do nothing, bat pants and Hello Kitty wallet because it was probably on sale.

Now that I have your attention with that pic :)
In my dwindling amount of spare time, I also record a weekly Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. podcast with my friend JD. Since S.H.I.E.L.D. is off for a few weeks, we’re doing a special themed episode next week all about Clark Gregg and we need everyone’s help!
Basically our plan is to put together an audible love fest. What we need are short submissions from people on why they respect/love/admire Clark Gregg and/or Phil Coulson. We’re looking for anything ranging from just why you like the character he plays to how either of them have affected you personally.
All you have to do is add to this post with your message or email us at level7accesspod@gmail.com or tweet us at @Level7AccessPod and we’ll read it off on next Thursday’s podcast. The deadline for submissions is Tuesday, February 11th at Midnight. Simple, right?
Guidelines:
1) Keep it short. Something I can read off in about 30 seconds to a minute.
2) Keep it clean. Cursing is perfectly fine, but you know what I’m talking about when I say keep it clean. Basically, something you wouldn’t be embarrassed over if the man himself heard it by complete chance.
3) We need an OK from you telling us you don’t mind hearing your username read on air. If you don’t want it on air, let us know in your message. We’ll still read the message, just with the tag ‘from anonymous’.
That’s it! Thanks!

Reminder that the deadline for submissions is tonight! We’ve received a bunch of great submissions from all over the fandom so far so keep it up!
